Many of our elementary schools operate at less than 60% capacity. While enrollment has declined, the reported capacity has increased.
The district reports that in order to accurately reflect the capacity of a building, we need to base it on square footage per student, which is determined by a multitude of factors, including building code requirements, type of programming space, and district standards. Square footage requirements differ for classroom space versus gymnasium space, and they can also vary depending on the type of programming we have in those spaces.
The most significant changes include Eagle Lake, which dropped from 101% to 56%; Monroe, which decreased from 108% to 57%; and Roosevelt, which fell from 110% to 59% capacity.
