Help Shape the Conversation: Submit Your Questions for the LWV Mankato School Board Forum

I’ve heard that several people are interested in learning more about upcoming debates. There will be a Mankato ISD77 School Board candidate forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of St. Peter Area on September 26, 2024, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the Mankato West High School Cafeteria, located at 1351 S. Riverfront Drive.

While this will be an in-person forum with candidates, a moderator, news outlets and a videographer, it will not be open to the public.

I’m sure many of you have valuable questions to contribute. A few questions I’d personally like to see asked include. . .

Is there a threshold for the number of violent or disruptive incidents a student can be involved in before disciplinary measures are considered? If so, what is that threshold?

How does the board plan to balance the safety and educational needs of all students, including those who feel unsafe due to the behavior of their peers?

What resources are allocated for remedial reading programs, and how does the district ensure these resources are sufficient and effective in meeting the needs of struggling students?

How does the school board plan to support teachers who are tasked with bringing students reading far below grade level up to the appropriate standards?

How will you support and retain high-quality teachers in our schools?

What are your priorities for spending in the district, and how do you plan to balance competing needs?

What do you see as the most critical issue facing our school district, and how do you plan to address it?

How will you be a champion for the principles of integrity, respect, excellence, belonging, and trust when you are elected?

Thanks,

Beth Hanke
